2018 Creative Writing Contest for Scholarships!

Contestants: Open to all public and private high school students in the four-county area of Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties. Seniors will be eligible for an IRSC scholarship. All other entries will be eligible for awards.

Deadline: March 2, 2018

Categories: Each contestant will submit a sample of his/her writing on any subject in only one (1)of the following categories: (1) Short Story or (1) One-Act Play or (1-3) Poems.
Submissions: Mail entries to Professor Suchismita Banerjee, Indian River State College,
English/Communications/Modern Languages Department, 3209 Virginia Avenue,
Fort Pierce, Florida 34981. Entries must be postmarked no later than March 2, 2018.
Please mark the envelope “Creative Writing Contest.”

Format: All entries must be typed using 12 point Times New Roman or Arial font.
Short stories and plays must be double spaced with 1 inch margins.

Include a cover page with the following information:
▪ author’s name, phone number, email address, grade level and school name
▪ teacher’s full name and email address

Entries not conforming will not be considered for competition. Contestants are encouraged to make copies of work submitted. Only Award Winners will be contacted.

Judges: Judges will be members of the Indian River State College English/Communications/Modern Languages Department.

Additional Information: Seniors will be eligible for one of two IRSC Scholarships. All admission requirements for the established scholarship will apply. 2017 Creative Writing Contest for Scholarships Call for Entries

The Indian River State College (IRSC) English/Communications/Modern Languages (ECML) Department is currently seeking submissions for its annual Creative Writing Contest for Scholarships for 2017. This contest is open to all public and private high school students in Martin County, St. Lucie County, Indian River County, and Okeechobee County (in Florida).

Below find submissions guidelines for entries. Only entries conforming to format/submission guidelines will be considered.

Format/Submissions Guidelines:

• Each contestant may submit one sample of his/her writing on any subject in only one of the following categories: short story; one-act play; poetry.
• All entries must be typed and sent as hardcopies. No digital submissions will be accepted.
• Double space with 1 inch margins. Use 12 point Times Roman or Arial font.
• Include a cover page with the following information: author’s full name; author’s phone number; author’s email address; author’s mailing address; author’s grade level; teacher’s full name; teacher’s email address; and school name.
• Mark “Creative Writing Contest” on the outside of the submission envelope.
• Mail entries to Dr. Tammy Powley, Indian River State College, English/Communications/Modern Languages Department, 3209 Virginia Avenue, Fort Pierce, Florida 34981.
• Entries must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2017.

Issue 2 Published!

Copies are available for purchase at the Indian River State College main campus book store. The theme of this latest issue is “memories,” and you will find some wonderful writing and photography within its pages!

IRSC Writer’s Day, April 14th, 2012

Indian River State College is offering a one day writing workshop on April 14th 2012 from 8:45am to 5:00pm on the Ft. Pierce, Florida campus. Writer’s Day will take place in the new Brown Center (located next to the Kight Building) in room Y-102. The cost of this one day event is $25 and includes lunch. It is limited to the first 50 applicants. Participants must first register before coming to the workshop.
